Our Story

Built From The Ground Up

Hard work. Hands-on experience. A commitment to doing it right.

People often ask how we got started, especially when they see the marine business we’ve built right here in our backyard. The truth is, it didn’t happen overnight. It was built little by little through experience, hard work, saving, reinvesting and taking pride in doing things the right way.

Before opening our own shop, Matt spent several years working at B&B in Henderson. During that time, he attended Yamaha technical school in Georgia and gained valuable hands-on experience. He also had the opportunity to learn from Chad, the son of B&B’s owner and a Yamaha Master Technician, who helped train Matt and shared a great deal of knowledge with him. We will always appreciate the role Chad played in Matt’s early career. During those same years, Matt also took on boat work on the side to help support our family and continued gaining experience along the way.

In 2018, we decided to take a chance on ourselves and officially opened Moore’s Marine. We had purchased a foreclosed home in Medon, and our beginning was about as simple as it gets—a storage building, gravel and pallets to work from. We started with what we had and went to work.

From there, we worked, saved and reinvested back into Moore’s Marine. As the business grew, so did the shop. We built onto the original storage building, eventually creating a two-bay shop, adding a covered back work area and, most recently, a dedicated room for detailed motor work and engine rebuilds.

Nothing about Moore’s Marine was built overnight or handed to us. We started with what we had and grew a little at a time, putting the fruits of our hard work back into the business along the way. Looking at the shop today, we’re proud not only of how far it has come, but of everything it took to get here.

As Moore’s Marine grew, it truly became a family effort. Once our son, Lloyd, became a teenager, he began helping wherever he could. He learned to back boats, operate the tractor and handle smaller maintenance jobs around the shop. His help throughout the years has been tremendous, and the experience gave him something in return as well. Working alongside us helped teach him responsibility, confidence and a strong work ethic, and we’ve been proud to watch how those years helped shape him into the young man he is today.

Along the way, Matt developed a real passion for the performance side of the marine business—and anyone who knows Matt knows he loves speed. Through years of hands-on experience, trial and error, and countless hours learning what different boat and motor combinations respond to, he developed a talent for getting the most out of a setup.

Today, performance setup is one of Matt’s specialties. He works with many different types of boats and motor brands, fine-tuning motor height, propeller selection, weight distribution and overall setup to get the best speed, handling and ride possible. He loves the challenge of figuring out what a boat needs and seeing just how well he can make that particular combination perform.

Our services have grown right along with the business. Today, we install and rig outboard motors, depth finders and marine electronics, perform repairs on the makes, models and year ranges we specialize in, and help customers with complete boat and motor setup. We take pride in the details—from how something is installed to how the finished boat performs on the water.

Years later, after B&B’s owner retired, Chad joined Moore’s Marine. We’re grateful to have his experience and knowledge as part of our team today, and it’s special that someone who helped Matt early in his career is now part of what we’ve built.

We may operate from our backyard, but we’ve never treated Moore’s Marine like a backyard operation. We take pride in maintaining an extremely clean, organized and professional shop and doing quality work we can stand behind. Customers trust us with something they’ve worked hard to own, and we believe the way we care for their boats should reflect that.

We didn’t start with a big shop and try to fill it with business. We built the business first, and the shop grew with us.

One job. One customer. One improvement. One paid-for addition at a time.
